“More than 260,000 adults and children in Viet Nam are living with HIV/AIDS”
—World Health Organization 2005 World Population Data Sheet

Country Context

Vietnamese law grants women generous maternity benefits of five full months for most female factory workers—and the ability to make independent reproductive health decisions.

However, women often put their own health needs after those of their families, HIV/AIDS infection rate is on the rise, and domestic violence, prostitution and human trafficking remain persistent problems.

Unmet Health Needs of Female Factory Workers in Viet Nam

  • Hepatitis B & C
  • Pre- and post-natal care
  • Family planning
  • Lack of awareness of HIV/AIDS transmission and prevention
  • Nutrition education
  • Upper respiratory tract infections, headache, fatigue, diarrhea, dysmenorrheal
