Local NGO Role

  • Design and develop the pilot project using information from factory management and workers about available services and unmet health needs
  • Manage project implementation of health needs assessment of workers, training of peer health educators and improvement of health services, as determined
  • Collect data for project monitoring and evaluation
  • Communicate regularly with factory management to ensure efficacy and long-term sustainability of project

What is involved?

  • Two full days initial training of 3-5 percent of the female workforce of each factory as Peer Health Educators; Two half day trainings to follow at three-month intervals
  • Existing health services assessment, provider training and materials purchase as necessary
  • Relationship development with factory manager and brand representative, to develop program sustainability
  • Capacity building of your own organization to maintain services at a reasonable and sustainable cost once pilot phase is completed.
  • Grant size and responsibilities vary by number of factories involved and programs that include Return-on-Investment studies
